Baby Black Espresso Bar
5/5 Dayni Rating
Baby Black Espresso Bar, you'd be forgiven for missing this hidden gem in amongst the hustle and bustle of Bacchus Marsh. It appears from the outside, as an old miners cottage build in 1866, but on the inside, it's soo much more! As soon as you pass through the doors at Baby Black Cafe you're transported into a quirky little dessert lovers paradise! Although small, this cafe is most certainly mighty! With three different sitting rooms it's a little bit of a labyrinth, but it all adds to the quirky charm, and in each, the walls are lined with all things random. Music posters, records, old concert tickets, antique toys and foreign currency?… well, I did say random. There are mismatching table settings from various decades, peeling paint on the walls, a cosy fireplace, and a cake fridge that rivals the best of them! It's EPIC! It has charm, it has personality, and it oozes a certain ambience that is addictive! But best of all, they have AMAZING desserts.
So let's talk about that cake fridge shall we? Well, it’s chock full of delicious desserts, from Cheesecakes, to Chocolate Cake, Pie, Muffins, Slices, Biscuits and of course the classic scones... with the most delicious strawberry Jam (which you can also get on their bagels, just so you know) The list goes on, and on, and on! and yet guessed it, every single option is made in house. Need I say more?
Seriously, everything here is good. But rarely have I found a Lemon Meringue Pie to rival that of Baby Black, and their Fruity Muffins, no matter what the flavour are always on point!
Stepping away from the dessert fridge for just a moment, I know, it's hard! But their Breakfast Menu is VERY highly regarded, and their coffee has been hailed by many as the best in Bacchus Marsh. I personally adore the Blueberry Bagel with Jam and Cream Cheese, but they often have delicious specials too, todays were apple pie porridge and peaches and cream french toast! I would have trialled the french toast for you, but I didn’t notice the specials board until after I’d ordered my bagel… aww well, gives me an excuse to go back. And just so you know, specials board is that giant, very hard to miss blackboard on the back wall… yeah.
So if you're a cake lover, a breakfast lover, or a coffee lover, Baby Black Espresso Bar is a must visit! But, maybe book a table ahead of time, this place is ALWAYS packed, we just showed up on a random Tuesday morning and were only just able to bag a table.
