Quigley and Clarke
5/5 Dayni Rating
Quigley and Clarke has been my families go to restaurant for years, and I cannot believe it has taken me until now to photograph and review this place! Because seriously, everyone needs to know about this little gem. Nestled away in the small town of Clunes, roughly a 30 minute drive from Ballarat, this restaurant sits pride and place on a historic street of which has stared in many films including Heath Ledgers Ned Kelly and Mel Gibsons Mad Max. A wood fire crackles away in the corner, a giant antique mirror looks down on the room and the light coming through the old stained glass windows plays on the walls. It’s warm, it’s cosy, it’s eclectic and classy, Quigley and Clarke is Country Victoria at it’s finest, and it’s food, would have to BE Country Victorias finest! Even the service is stellar! Heck, today our waiter very stealthily filled our water glasses for us while we were chatting, and we didn’t even notice! We were all quite perplexed when we noticed our glasses were full and not one of the three of us saw the waiter come or go. There’s a unique review title for Trip Advisor, Fabulous Food, Great Atmosphere and Ninja Staff!
Every meal consumed in this restaurant over the many years that my family and I have loyally attended for brunch dates, has been nothing short of exquisite, their granola, which while it was on their menu was a staple in my weekly diet, presented itself like a piece of art, studded with freshly poached rhubarb and pears, edible flowers, local honey and the finest greek yogurt. But now that their menu has morphed into it’s Winter form… the Winter Waffles is where it’s at! The house made waffles are gorgeously fluffy (and vegan, just in case you were wondering), they’re topped with caramelised banana, fresh strawberries, mint and bacon should you choose it, I should did! Then it’s all very tactfully drizzled with maple spiced yoghurt and Canadian syrup… do I even need to tell you how incredibly delicious it was? No? I didn’t think so.
In addition to their stellar Breakfast, and Lunch, and Dinner menu, they also have a cake fridge choc full of beautiful creations, all house made, which you know I adore!! and with a range of both vegan and gluten free options, with is phenomenal! So, if you’re still waiting for me to tell you to pay Quigley and Clarke a visit… pay them a visit already would you! You will not regret it!
Literally whatever their sweet option is on the breakfast menu, you will never be disappointed! Be it granola, french toast, waffles, porridge.. whatever it may be, just order it, trust me.
I also recommend something a little left of field to my usual recommendations, but any menu item that says ‘Tuki Trout’. Tuki Trout comes from a local Farm out near Daylesford, the grounds are absolutely exquisite (don’t worry, I’ll take you there one time) and their Trout (and lamb actually) are absolutely delicious! My dad orders something with Tuki Trout every time we visit Quigley and Clarke and raves about how amazing the trout is every single time…. so actually, dad recommends the Tuki Trout.
